Welcome to my leadership blog. Ideas have consequences and the goal of this blog is to discuss ideas of consequence. Some ideas you may agree with and some you may disagree. No worries. The only rules are that you post under your own name and that you think and discuss in a civil manner. People who attack others only prove they have reached the limit of their logic. The Bible states, "Iron sharpens iron" and we will sharpen one another by what we read, write and think. The goal of this blog is to help us identify and follow truth in all areas of our lives. I encourage you to join our leadership discussion and transform yourself and others through the renewing of our minds.
Re: Separation of Religion & State?
by Matt Franks
Orrin, WOW!!! What a great post! As a Christian I am very proud of the convictions you portrayed on this post, but even more impressed with the solutions you gave. One of the things that has really bothered me about my fellow believers is that they are always telling society what they are against, more than explaining what they stand for! That is one of the biggest reasons why I love the leadership of TEAM and especially people like Pastor Dickie! Now I am going to try to make a post without ranting and raving because this very issue/problem is one that is very near and dear to my heart. In fact one of my dreams one day is to start private charter schools (that I fund out of my own pocket) and have the students from grades 9-12 learn leadership principles, biblical principles, finacial principles, relationship principles, character, and teamwork principles that are taught from people that truly "walk the walk!" Why do I bring this up? Because I read a quote from Abraham Lincoln a couple of years ago that I committed to memory: "The philosophy of the school room in one generation will be the philosophy of government in the next. " Here we go! I read a statistic that 84% of Americans consider themselves to be Christians. Now that number shocked me because, like you said Orrin, nobody is speaking up with the exception of the TEAM and some other organizations. But for the most part it is very few. Now 84%, according to my mathematics, is more than half:) The question I have is why aren't more people outraged with this type of thinking!!!!!? The frustration I have regarding this "internal assault" on our values is that the TRUTH ARMY is largely on leave. Many Americans are disengaged from the conflict; in fact, they don’t even know it is under way. Go to any shopping mall and ask people what they think of this "Media War" and its impact on their lives. You’ll likely get a blank stare followed by the inevitable “What?” But ask about the latest American Idol sensation and you’ll have a detailed, open-ended conversation. Common people it is time to wake up the sleeping GIANT!!!!!!!!! Remember you can do nothing wrong and still do nothing right! For a country with the foundational beliefs that America has it sickens me with some of these "rights" organizations that have risen up to try and sabotage people's thinking. One of the organizations that is on the frontlines of this "rights" movement (and I don't want to spell out their full name) but their initials are ACLU. In his book, "The Culture Warrior" by Bill O'Reilly he talks about the ACLU and it's agenda: "The ACLU, on the front lines, is extremely aggressive and well funded, as I have stated. That means they are serious people. On my programs, I have called this crew a “fascist organization” because they seek to impose their worldview on America – not by the popular vote, which is the way it is supposed to be done in a democracy, but by “gaming” the legal system. Because they know that they will never, ever achieve their goals on Election Day, their strategy is to rely on activist left-wing judges to bring about secular changes in our laws. By the way, it is worth noting that Massachusetts is home ground for the ACLU. It is in this state where that organization volunteered to represent the North American Man-Boy Love Association (NAMBLA) pro bono in a civil case after a particularly brutal indefensible crime in Cambridge. A 10 year old boy named Jeffery Curley was raped and murdered by two men, who were caught and convicted. One of the killers had written a diary that NAMBLA literature, which encourages adult rape of children, gave him some incentive to assault the boy. The killer has said he gained access to the NAMBLA material at the Boston Public Library. It was easy enough. He simply went there and punched up NAMBLA’s website on a library computer. Outraged as well as broken hearted, the Curley family sought to avenge their young son and prevent any further heinous crimes by filing a 200 million dollar lawsuit against NAMBLA. That gave the ACLU another chance to do what it often does: defend and promote harmful conduct based on theoretical argument that any kind of censorship is bad. And here comes the ACLU, ready to defend free of charge an organization that promotes the rape of children. This is one of the main reasons the secular progressives must be defeated. " NEED I SAY ANYMORE.....! The reason I believe on why more people don't stand up to this type of agenda can be summarized by one word: COURAGE! For Christmas my Dad got me a book called "In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day" by Mark Batterson. If anyone has not read that book, I highly recomend it!!! I could not put this book down and it was all about having the courage to be a lion chaser. It will make perfect sense to you once you read it about how it applies to this assault against America. Here are a few quotes from the book that I wanted to share with you, but I promise it won't ruin the book for you:) "God is always using past experiences to prepare us for future opportunities. But those God-Given opportunities often come disguised as man-eating lions. And how we react when we encounter those lions will determine our destiny. We can cower in fear and run away from our greatest challenges. Or we can chase our God-ordained destiny by seizing the God-ordained opportunity. Our calling is much higher than simply running away from what's wrong. We're called to chase lions. What sets lion chasers apart isn't the outcome. It's the courage to chase God-sized dreams. Lion chasers don't let their fears or doubts keep them from doing what God has called them to do. Lion chasers know God is bigger and more powerful than any problem they face in this world. They thrive in the toughest circumstances because they know that impossible odds set the stage for amazing miracles." It gets better, but the fact of the matter is that it is time to step up! It seems like too many of the 84% of Christians are just sitting back and relying on faith to turn this problem around. Now I am not degrading the importance of having a strong faith, but God wants an active partnership with us to chase down this lion! I heard a sermon by John C. Maxwell about faith and I want to share some of the notes with you about what he talked about regarding faith: "Faithfulness Q. How do we define the terms successful and faithful! I define being successful as fulfilling the Great Commission. Jesus has given the church a job to do. We will either succeed or fail at it. Using this definition, every church should want to be successful! What is the alternative? The opposite of success is not faithfulness, but failure. Any church that is not obeying the Great Commission is failing its purpose, no matter what else it does. What is faithfulness? Usually we define it in terms of beliefs. We think that by holding orthodox beliefs we are fulfilling Christ's command to be faithful. We call ourselves "defenders of the faith." But Jesus meant far more than adherence to beliefs when he used the term. He defined faithfulness in terms of behavior- a willingness to take risks (that require faith) in order to be fruitful. The clearest example of this is the parable of the talents in Matthew 25:14-30. The two men who doubled the talents the master gave them were called "good and faithful servants." In other words, they proved their faithfulness by taking risks that produced fruit. They were successful at the task that they had been assigned, and they were rewarded for it by the master. The passive, fearful servant who did nothing with the talent he was given produced no results for the master because he would not take a risk. He was called "wicked and lazy" in contrast to the two men called "faithful" for producing results. The point of the story is clear: God expects to see results. Our faithfulness is demonstrated by our fruit. Faithfulness is accomplishing as much as possible with the resources and talents God has given you. That's why comparing churches is an illegitimate way to measure success. Success is not being larger than some other church; it is bearing as much fruit as possible given your gifts, opportunities, and potential." How does that apply to this? I believe the reason more people don't stand up and fight is because they do not believe one person can make that big of a difference. And they cannot be further from the truth! This cause requires a person to just use their gifts and abilities in a positive direction. It is time, as an entire country, we start acting on what we preach: "One nation under God!" Thanks Orrin! Best, Matt
