Re: Presidential Election 2008 - Principles - American Patriotism
by
Bert
I have to agree with the first comment about the U.S. military. I served our country (and the State of Ohio) for 7 years in in the National Guard. It enable me to do some traveling in Panama, Iraq, and several states and I noticed the same thing. People of various backgrounds from all parts of the country united in the cause to defend the people of the United States. We had a saying in the Army that there are no blacks, whites, browns, etc. We're all Green.
What I love most about the United States is that anything is possible and we have a long tradition of standing up against tyranny. After all that's what caused us to split from Great Britain in the first place. I also believe that no where in history will you find a greater concentration of leaders than in America in the 18th century. This is my favorite era in history because the "underdogs" stood up against insurmountable odds and defied the status quo. I feel that is the real American heritage.
I don't think you'll find anyone in the field of candidates more in tune with the founding principles of this country or with the founders themselves the Ron Paul. For one thing, he seems to be the only one that has actually read the rule book, The U.S. Constitution, or at least he's the only one that actually takes it seriously. I'm also impressed with his consistancy and his resiliance. It takes a stong leader to be pushed to the side and virtually ignored by the media and all but publicly ridiculed by his opponents and still stick to his principles. He reminds me a lot of some men that lived in this country about 230 years ago.
