Welcome to my leadership blog. Ideas have consequences and the goal of this blog is to discuss ideas of consequence. Some ideas you may agree with and some you may disagree. No worries. The only rules are that you post under your own name and that you think and discuss in a civil manner. People who attack others only prove they have reached the limit of their logic. The Bible states, "Iron sharpens iron" and we will sharpen one another by what we read, write and think. The goal of this blog is to help us identify and follow truth in all areas of our lives. I encourage you to join our leadership discussion and transform yourself and others through the renewing of our minds.
Re: Presidential Candidates - Taxes and Private Property
by Mike Mooney
Orrin, absolutely incredible article! The tax situation in general in our country has perplexed me since I have begun to truly understand what an abomination it is, and the property taxes even more so! I have asked people for years why the government can continue to charge "rent" for a piece of land that has been purchased by a private citizen and have never gotten a good answer. I believe that is because there is no good answer. As for the welfare system that is plaguing our country, the fix to that, I believe, has always been and is today families of true charity and compassion combining efforts through the religious organizations nationwide and taking responsibility for the poor and the widows and orphans, just as Christ commanded. I believe that when individuals and groups take responsibility for other individuals they are careful to invest more than just dollars. They then are compelled to "teach a man to fish". The third-party spending that has become essentially a large parasite to our national revenue is really exactly that. It's an unwanted presence that drains the life out of our hard-earned money and reduces our incentive to give. It also creates an entitlement mentality that perpetuates laziness and, ultimately a subculture that, as is mentioned in a letter that Orrin wrote to someone at an old distributor when he quoted from Edward Gibbon in "Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, has an increased desire to live off the state. There is much change needed in our nation- most of which stems from a need to return to the basics of true freedom. And I think I know a man who is fit to shoulder the responsibility. Now if we could only collect enough people in some type of group that could have enough of a presence to make that happen... Thank you, Orrin, for making the decision to be all that God has asked you to be and for taking responsibility. You are an inspiration and a hero.
