Re: A Great Leader is a Great Follower
by
Ryan in Minneapolis
today's blog reminds me of a great discussion we had during our last leadership forum. (btw, these forums are happening during the lunch hour at a major corporation in the twin cities! your book is beginning to get executive level attention here!)
anyway, the topic of 'where to lead?' came up. someone reference a harvard business journal article on leadership that stressed the importance of leading from the rear (i.e. pushing the team). it made me think of a drill sargent - a good leader, right? then someone else argued that a great leader must be at the frontline, steering the team to through the journey to the ultimate goal. finally, our forum leader stated that a true 'servant leader' is constantly in flux, moving from front to back and into the middle, depending on the needs of the team. i thought this was a great point and wondered if you could share any of your own insight on this debate, Orrin.
