Re: New Ideas - From Contempt to Competitor to Conqueror

Dear Orrin: Another great post - I don't know how you do it, but you just keep coming up with more and more great articles that get the wheels turning in my head! I'm sure your leadership journey, the books you have read, your spiritual mentor - they have probably all had an influence on not only the kind of man you have become, but they influence the leadership material you are sharing with us - we are very lucky to have a window into your vision/perspective.
It is always an amazing thing to watch the nay-sayers come out of the woodwork (and every place else) when someone else starts to succeed - in the corporate world sometimes we call them brown-nosers (or worse), sometimes in ordinary life - we just say "they got lucky" - because it's easier for our nature to watch someone stay at the level they're at instead of cheering them on and waving the checked flag for them when they succeed or come up with a better idea. It's more of a stretch to stop and think about what they really accomplished and struggled through to get the success they have. And, it takes some emotional maturity to watch a successful person who is moving on and realize their journey isn't over - not if they are a real leader - they are just entering into a different part of their journey - and they'll keep moving on.
Maybe that's why some people criticize or condemn those who are willing to go out on a limb and try soemthing new and succeed - it makes us take pause and reflect on our life and wonder" if and when am I going to take a risk and really throw my heart over the bar for something that's right and something I believe in" - that's the hard part - at least in my opinion.
I love what my MOther taught me - "if you can't say something nice about someone, don't say anthing at all" :)
Great post!
Ann
