Welcome to my leadership blog. Ideas have consequences and the goal of this blog is to discuss ideas of consequence. Some ideas you may agree with and some you may disagree. No worries. The only rules are that you post under your own name and that you think and discuss in a civil manner. People who attack others only prove they have reached the limit of their logic. The Bible states, "Iron sharpens iron" and we will sharpen one another by what we read, write and think. The goal of this blog is to help us identify and follow truth in all areas of our lives. I encourage you to join our leadership discussion and transform yourself and others through the renewing of our minds.
Re: The Berlin Wall - A Study in Oppression and Captivity

Orrin and all, Great posts all around. I am more than sure that Reagan's speech and the actions afterwards sparked infinite amounts of feelings in everyone. While I was alive at the time, I have to shamefully admit that I really didn't have much sense of what was going on in the world (I like to blame my naivety; I was 13 when Reagan made that speech. I was still wanting to run home from school and watch cartoons! :) ) But 3 - 4 years after, I started to grow and see what was happening in the world. My little sister (she was technically my best friend, but we were like protective brother and supportive/inspirational sister) still had family that lived in West Berlin, and to see the look on her face when she caught the news that they were free.. I'd have to rate it up there with the looks of elation on the faces of parents with a newborn child. It was something that you wouldn't trade for anything in the world. Fast forward a few months (I was 16 - 17) and went to a rock concert. The Scorpions, to be exact. When the singer, Klaus Meine, asked the crowd how many people there were German or of German descent, I was surprised that for Omaha, Nebraska, there were a lot of people who were (once again, I blame my naivety; the closest I had been to a foreign country at the time was Dallas, TX and South Dakota!). But Klaus asked this because of everything that was happening in Germany, and how it affected all of Europe at the time. This led to them playing their biggest and most influential song at that time, Wind of Change. There was a lot of backpatting, hugging, and tears shed during that song; there still is to this day. Because of me being who I am, and while understanding what was going on, not understanding a single bit about how much it meant, I really didn't get it. But as the saying goes, "If I knew then what I know now.." I understand a lot more about what freedom.. true freedom meant to them, and what it means to me now, especially as a part of the Team. Those Winds of Change are still blowing, everyone. We see it and feel it every day, on this journey to millions and millions of people. I'm glad to be just one person who can embrace it. There are many people who still need to smell it, feel it, and believe it. Let's all continue to do our part to keep that wind blowing. I'll end this with the lyrics to Wind of Change. Enjoy, and thank you for listening to my thoughts. I follow the Moskva down to Gorky Park listening to the wind of change An August summer night soldiers passing by listening to the wind of change The world is closing in did you ever think that we could be so close, like brothers The future's in the air I can feel it everywhere blowing with the wind of change Take me to the magic of the moment on a glory night Where the children of tomorrow dream away in the wind of change Walking down the street distant memories are buried in the past forever I follow the Moskva down to Gorky Park listening to the wind of change Take me to the magic of the moment on a glory night where the children of tomorrow share their dreams with you and me Take me to the magic of the moment on a glory night where the children of tomorrow dream away in the wind of change The wind of change blows straight into the face of time Like a storm wind that will ring the freedom bell for peace of mind Let your balalaika sing what my guitar wants to say Take me to the magic of the moment on a glory night Where the children of tomorrow share their dreams with you and me Take me to the magic of the moment on a glory night Where the children of tomorrow dream away in the wind of change BL.
