My husband spent many years serving our country. Several of those years were in Berlin during the 80's when the wall was still up. He often talks of the oppression that the people suffered and what the city looked like because of it. Nothing had changed since WWII. He said that you could still see bullet holes in the buildings and swastikas still painted in homes. The people however, knew that there was a better life and he was often treated with celebrity status because he was an american soldier. One of our dreams is to return to Berlin to see how it has changed since he left.
