Re: Rich Devos, Jay VanAndel, Joe Victor & IBOAI - Free Enterprise
by
g.a.b.
A long time ago (in a galaxy far, far away) I purchased a nicely boxed VHS presentation of Rich DeVos' "Four Winds" - in it Rich addresses the various winds that can buffet us into complacency, laziness, turmoil and inaction. The wind was an obvious and effective metaphor for the things that stop, or distract us, in pursuing the "main things" in life. Though it's been many years since I've viewed the tape, I remember it as inspirational in its pointed message: keep moving forward.
I'm sorry and disappointed to see that the only "wind" coming out of Ada as of late...
...is a massive front of "hot air".
------------------------------------
And now, with apologies to Samuel Taylor Coleridge:
It is an ancient Enterprise,
It encroatcheth upon me.
`By its long beard and glittering eye,
It didn't want us free.
But Freedom's doors are opened wide,
And we the next of kin;
Th'opponents met, the battle set:
May'st hear the merry din.'
In mist or cloud, on mast or shroud,
They perched for vespers nine ;
Whiles all the night, through fog-smoke white,
Glimmered the white Moon-shine.'
They try to hold, with skinny hand,
`There was a DEAL,' quoth he.
`Hold off! Unhand me, grey-beard loon!'
Eftsoons his hand dropt me.
`God save us, Orrin, Warrior !
From the fiends, that plague TEAM thus !
The rest we know -- on with the show,
We've vanquished old DeVos.
