Welcome to my leadership blog. Ideas have consequences and the goal of this blog is to discuss ideas of consequence. Some ideas you may agree with and some you may disagree. No worries. The only rules are that you post under your own name and that you think and discuss in a civil manner. People who attack others only prove they have reached the limit of their logic. The Bible states, "Iron sharpens iron" and we will sharpen one another by what we read, write and think. The goal of this blog is to help us identify and follow truth in all areas of our lives. I encourage you to join our leadership discussion and transform yourself and others through the renewing of our minds.
Re: Warren Bennis - Six Personal Qualities of Leadership
by Gary S.
Orrin, Russ and Lisa Ence gave a talk in Madison this past weekend that so fit into what this topic is about. We need leaders because not everyone is equipped with the right information and the means to take themselves or others "onward through the fog". Russ used the anaolgy of being an airplane pilot. It's not the same as riding a bike or driving a car. Much like the invisible economy today, flying a plane is traveling on an invisible highway. You have to rely on different information and other people when flying because you can't physically see where you are going. This is why planes are equipped with the gages they have. You can fly a plane only for so long before becoming totally reliant on those gages. A new pilot has a tendancy to react on what they think they know and what seems right and it could easily take them of course to where they don't want to be and even possibly lead to disaster. The same applies to Leadership and applying it to a business model. People become so accustomed to doing things a certain way, that when change takes place, they still think they can apply the same thinking and get different results. Russ' talk really made me look at our program and realize, we have our gages intact, but we haven't always utilized them. The gages are like principles. They don't change. However, our directions change and without confidence in our gages and the air traffic controller's (our leaders with the right information) we can fail miserably. I hope people out there understand the importance of the seminars and the impact they can have on your life. Every single month I come out of a seminar with so much more perspective than I had going in. What if we could a group of a million people gaining perspective like that? Sounds "Fired Up"! God bless~ Gary S.
