Welcome to my leadership blog. Ideas have consequences and the goal of this blog is to discuss ideas of consequence. Some ideas you may agree with and some you may disagree. No worries. The only rules are that you post under your own name and that you think and discuss in a civil manner. People who attack others only prove they have reached the limit of their logic. The Bible states, "Iron sharpens iron" and we will sharpen one another by what we read, write and think. The goal of this blog is to help us identify and follow truth in all areas of our lives. I encourage you to join our leadership discussion and transform yourself and others through the renewing of our minds.
Re: Randy Forbes - A Christian Nation
by Miguel
Where in the Constitution does it say that the Federal Government is to establish a religion? A belief in God, acknowledging that there is a Creator and admitting that we were found on Christian Principles of course is not establishing a religion but nationalizing prayer in school is, imho. I used to agree that we (the Federal Government) should put prayer back in schools until I came to realize that nowhere in the Constitution does it say that the Federal Government is to even educate us. I feel that should be a states matter or even better a local community (city) matter. In most communities across the United States the people of the local communities would want prayer in schools. I feel like so often our elected officials just try to fix the symptoms (nationalizing prayer in schools) instead of the cause (illegally nationalizing education). When Obama says they we are not a Christian nation he then goes on to say that we are a Christian nation, a Muslim nation, a Buddhist nation, an atheist nation etc. I take it to mean that what he is saying is that all are welcome here regardless of their beliefs and that they don't have to become a Christian just to be a true American citizen. Please don't take this as me supporting Obama; I disagree with pretty much everything he stands for! I would just rather our Federal Government and their officials keep their faith private and lead by example instead of saying we/they are Christians and still committing horrible crimes/sins at the same time. To me, when you are a public figure and you profess that you are a Christian, they then become a public representative of Christ. When some of the Presidents he mentioned (who committed sins that I know even made Christ cry), who then say they did it in the name of Christ and in the name of Americans who are Christians, I'd just rather them say nothing. Take even our Founders who held other human beings as property and some even killing Indians. Abraham Lincoln killing hundreds of thousands over their God given and Constitution guaranteed right to secede. FDR, rounding up people as if they are cattle (pun intended) and placing them in internment camps. Truman being the only person in history to have ever dropped a weapon of mass destruction and killing hundreds of thousands in the process! Reagan okaying the slaughter of the innocent as Governor of Cali and then as President not stopping or doing anything to stop the slaughter of tens of millions of the innocent and unborn. His more aggressive position on not allowing people their God given right to non violently sin (the drug war). Then of course Bush, for also not stopping the slaughter of the innocent and unborn or even trying despite his rhetoric. His killing hundreds of thousands abroad not only in spite of being a Christian but he used that as a defense! His torturing of hundreds of people! Not to mention him lying about all of this too! My point is that our Government, who is immoral by its very nature (i.e. stealing other peoples money, Thou shall not steal!), should refrain from establishing a religion and stick to their Constitutional obligations of making sure that we are all free to practice whatever religion we want or none at all. This doesn't mean that they shouldn't act out Christian principles of course but they can do so w/o saying and if they want to be an outspoken Christian leader and speak out about their faith then they should become a missionary or evangelist. Their job as elected officials is not to do that, but they can act out their beliefs to be an example imho. Please tell me what you think about my thoughts. Miguel
