Re: United States National Debt - A National Disgrace

Scary is an understatement, and unfortunately, it goes even deeper than that. (1) It seems to me that the major reason why the government is comfortable with decifit spending is because we are comfortable with it. We don't mind when they're doing it, and so we elect them back in to office. (2) The overall tax situation is high enough that even if we were to cut back on spending and become not become frivolous with it, how much money would we really have to save? (3) There is hardly any incentive to save. The saving's accounts tend to have really louse interest rates...at least last time I checked. Yet, despite that, it seems the movie pegged the primary problem which is not the money issues, but rather the leadership issue. If we can get the right leadership at the helm, the other issues will start to be dealt with. It seems to me that there is something to be said about the statement, "it's the economy, stupid." I thought it was a dumb statement, but after this movie, they are correct, but for the wrong reason. We are a nation that is slowly eroding to simply looking to ourselves which is at the root of apathy and ignorance, and this attitude is translated to Washington. For me, Washington is merely a reflection of the attitude of the people at large. We don't mind spending more than we take in; therefore, what's being passed for leadership in Washington also does not mind. Therefore, it comes back to us once again. So how shall we then respond? The matter is actually very simple; it is only clashing ideologies that complicates the matter.
